HB-Spirometer

The HB-Spirometer is designed to encourage the user to take as deep a breath as possible and, in doing so, improve their lung capacity.

It is helpful in assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis and COPD, as well as encouraging deep and prolonged breathing to help post-operative patients recover faster.

It uses a 3-ball visual incentive method that shows the user instantly how well they are expanding their lungs. The respiratory exerciser is effective because it makes the user work their muscles to increase their air intake flow rate. The harder they work, the stronger, deeper and more sustained their breathing becomes. Deep breathing opens up the air sacs in the lungs which helps reduce the chance of patients developing an infection or acute chest syndrome.
